TL;DR: A one-of-one museum-canvas portrait that dresses your rabbit in full royal regalia — velvet robes, gilded frames, the works. Built for rabbit owners who treat their bun like royalty (you know who you are), and a genuinely great gift for birthdays, Easter, and 'just because' moments that deserve something better than a Hallmark card.

Who it's for (and who it isn't)

Rabbit owners who are deeply, unashamedly attached to their pet. That's not a dig — it's the majority of our rabbit portrait customers. We've shipped to people who built enclosures the size of a studio apartment for their Holland Lop, and to folks who simply got a bun for their kid two Christmases ago and somehow became obsessed. Both groups love this. The sweet spot is a gift for a partner, daughter, or best friend who posts more rabbit content than human content on Instagram. Age range skews 25–40, but we've shipped the 24×36 to a 68-year-old woman in Burlington, VT who ordered it for her own living room wall.

It also works really well as a sympathy gift after a rabbit passes. A few customers have told us they ordered it within days of losing their pet — having the photo already on canvas, dressed up and dignified, does something emotionally that a regular framed photo doesn't. We don't market it that way, but it happens enough that we think it's worth saying out loud.

Who this isn't for: Anyone expecting photorealistic fur-by-fur detail. The Royal theme is illustrated and painterly — your rabbit's face, markings, and coloring translate beautifully, but this isn't a hyperrealistic oil painting commission. If you want literal photo-accuracy above all else, you'd probably be happier with a traditional pet portrait artist charging $200+. We're not that, and we're not pretending to be.

How it's made

You upload a clear photo — ideally a front-facing shot with decent light, though we'll work with what you've got — and our system uses AI-assisted face-mapping to place your rabbit's features into the Royal composition. From there, a human artist steps in to refine the snout shape, ear position, eye color, and coat pattern against the original photo. Honestly, we discard about 1 in 10 generations before it ever reaches the artist queue, because the face-lock just isn't right — wrong ear angle, muddy eye color, that kind of thing. Only once the artist signs off does it move to print. We use a museum-grade canvas stretched over a solid pine frame, printed with pigment inks rated for 75+ years without fading. Our head of production, Maya Chen, checks a sample pull from every print batch — her rule is that if she wouldn't hang it in her own hallway, it doesn't ship.

What makes this different

Generic pet portrait services give you a preset illustration with a pet-shaped hole in it — swap any animal in and the result looks like clip art with fur. This is different because we're working from your specific rabbit's photo: the exact coloring of a blue-eyed Flemish Giant reads completely differently on canvas than a sandy Mini Rex, and our process preserves that. The Royal theme also isn't permanent inventory — we retire and refresh themes periodically, so the exact version you're ordering won't be on sale forever. In 2025 we produced 412 rabbit Royal portraits specifically; compare that to the thousands of generic "pet in a crown" stock prints floating around Etsy with zero personalization. One more thing: at $35 on museum canvas, there isn't a meaningful competitor at this price point doing real custom face-work. The ones charging $15 are sending you a filtered selfie on cardboard. The ones doing this properly usually charge $80–120. We're somewhere in between on price and, we'd argue, above the $80 tier on output quality.

Of our 50,000+ orders since 2022, 412 were Royal theme rabbit portraits produced in 2025 alone — making it one of our top five pet-specific theme combinations by volume.
PortraitGift internal production data, 2025
The pet portrait market was valued at approximately $1.4 billion globally in 2023, with custom canvas prints cited as the fastest-growing subcategory.
Grand View Research, Pet Care Market Report, 2023
Rabbit portraits are one of our trickiest categories — the ear shape and eye placement vary so much between breeds that we reject roughly 1 in 10 AI generations before a human artist even sees it. In 2025 we produced 412 rabbit Royal portraits and I'd say about 35 of those needed a second-pass revision before I was happy with the ear-to-face proportions. It's worth the extra step.

Sophie M. · Portland, OR · ★★★★★

I ordered this for my roommate whose rabbit, Biscuit, passed away in October 2024. She cried when she opened it — genuinely. The ear coloring on a tan Lionhead is hard to get right and they nailed it. I was nervous because the photo I submitted was from her phone and not the sharpest, but the preview looked great and the final canvas matched exactly. 12×16 size, shipped in 8 days.

James T. · Manchester, UK · ★★★★★

Took about 12 days to arrive in the UK which is fine — I knew from the product page it'd be 7-14 days. The portrait itself is brilliant, our Dutch rabbit looks properly regal in the velvet robes. My only note is the first preview had the eye color slightly off (our rabbit has one blue eye) and I flagged it; they fixed it within a day and the corrected version was perfect. Good process.

Rachel K. · Austin, TX · ★★★★★

Bought the 16×20 as a birthday gift for my daughter who is completely obsessed with her Holland Lop, Maple. I was skeptical a $35 canvas would look anything but cheap. It doesn't — the frame is solid, the print is sharp, and the detail on Maple's lop ears is surprisingly accurate. It's hanging in her room and she's shown it to everyone she knows. Would absolutely order again.

Care and shipping

US orders ship in 5–7 business days; EU and UK customers should expect 7–14 days depending on customs. The canvas arrives ready to hang — no extra framing needed. Keep it out of direct sunlight if you can (the pigment inks are rated 75+ years, but why push it), and dust with a dry cloth rather than anything damp. If the portrait arrives damaged or the likeness genuinely missed the mark, our 60-day satisfaction policy covers a free reprint or a full refund — no hoop-jumping required. We've processed reprints for things as specific as "the ear color is more grey than brown in person" and we'll do it again.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of photo works best for a rabbit portrait?Front-facing, decent natural light, rabbit filling most of the frame. Phone cameras are completely fine — we've made great portraits from iPhone 8 shots. What kills quality is heavy blur, extreme backlighting, or a photo where the rabbit is tiny in the corner. If you're unsure, upload it anyway; our team will flag it before production starts if we think there's a problem.
My photo quality is pretty low — will it still work?Sometimes yes, sometimes we'll ask for another. Low-resolution photos (under ~800px on the short side) cause issues at larger print sizes because we're scaling up and the face detail gets muddy. For the 8×10 and 12×16, we can usually work with a lower-res photo. For 24×36, you really want a sharp source image. We'll reach out within 24 hours if there's an issue rather than just guessing.
Can I see a preview before you print it?Yes. We send a digital preview for approval before anything goes to canvas. You get one round of revision included — so if the ear color's off or you want the composition adjusted, say so at preview stage. Changes after printing aren't possible without a reorder, which we'd rather avoid for both of us.
My rabbit passed away recently. Can you still make the portrait from an older photo?Absolutely, and we handle these orders with extra care. Older photos — even ones from several years back — work fine as long as the face is reasonably clear. A few customers have mentioned this is the first thing they've done after losing their pet, and we take that seriously. The 60-day policy applies in full, and if you want to note the context in your order comments, our team will flag it internally.
How long does it actually take from order to doorstep?Production takes 2–3 business days. US shipping adds 5–7 days, so realistically 7–10 days total for most US orders. EU and UK: production is the same, shipping adds 7–14 days. If you're ordering close to a birthday or holiday, there's an expedited option at checkout. December is our busiest month — in December 2024 we ran 3–4 day production delays around the 18th–22nd, so plan accordingly if you're reading this in late November.
Can I put two rabbits in one portrait?Yes — there's a multi-pet option on the product page. Two rabbits in one Royal composition works really well, actually. More than two starts to get compositionally crowded and we're honest about that; three is the max we'll take on for this theme without it looking cluttered.
What if I hate it when it arrives?60-day satisfaction policy, no drama. If the portrait doesn't look like your rabbit or arrives damaged, contact us and we'll reprint or refund. The one thing we ask is that you approved the digital preview — if you approved it and the print matches the preview, a change-of-mind return isn't covered. But genuine quality or likeness issues? We fix those.
Is the canvas ready to hang or do I need to frame it?Ready to hang. It comes gallery-wrapped on a pine stretcher frame with a hanging kit included. You don't need to buy a separate frame, though some customers do put it in a frame on top for an extra-formal look — the 12×16 fits standard off-the-shelf frames if you want to go that route.

Your rabbit deserves a portrait that looks like it belongs in a castle. Upload a photo and we'll handle the rest — preview before you commit, ships in under 10 days.
