"I got this Game of Thrones-style portrait as a surprise gift for my husband, and he was blown away! The likeness, the details, the whole epic vibe — it was like seeing him as a true king of Westeros. The quality is amazing, and it arrived quickly and ready to hang. He said it's one of the coolest gifts he's ever received. Totally worth it for any GOT fan!"

"Let's just say… this portrait perfectly captures our relationship dynamics. I'm the fierce Viking, of course — noble, brave, beard goals. And my wife? Well, she insisted on being the Devil. Horns, smirk, fiery eyes — it's uncomfortably accurate. The quality is amazing, the frame is solid pinewood, and it came ready to hang right above our bed… because nothing says romance like a Viking and his demonic queen staring into your soul every night. 10/10, would get possessed again."

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely obsessed with our Bridgerton-inspired couple portrait! It's like we stepped straight into a Regency romance — I've never seen us look so elegant and dramatic. The detailing on the costumes is stunning, the expressions are spot on, and the soft background gives it that perfect vintage vibe. It arrived quickly, beautifully printed, and ready to hang. We've already had friends ask where they can get one! Total romantic dream come true."

TL;DR: A custom royal portrait painted in Renaissance oil-painting style with your cat's actual face — velvet robes, gold crown, the works. Best for cat owners who treat their pet like a family member and want wall art that genuinely makes guests stop and stare. Starts at $35.
Your cat's real face is composited into a Renaissance-style royal portrait — this isn't a generic stock illustration with a name slapped on it.
We discard roughly 1 in 12 generated portraits because the face placement looks off; your order only ships when the likeness is right.
In 2025 we produced 1,247 of these royal cat portraits — making it one of our top-three pet themes, neck and neck with Viking cat.
The portrait ships on museum-grade canvas stretched over a kiln-dried pine frame, not the rolled-up poster tube situation you get from most pet art sites.
A 60-day satisfaction policy covers reprints and refunds — no 'digital product, no returns' fine print.
Who it's for (and who it isn't)
Cat owners who are, let's be honest, a little obsessed — in the best way. The buyers we see most often are people in their 30s and 40s ordering for themselves or a fellow cat person, frequently timed to a birthday, a housewarming, or (more than you'd think) a cat's "gotcha day" anniversary. They want something that lives on the wall, not in a phone camera roll. Sarah M. from Portland ordered the 16x20 for her sister's birthday in March 2025 and emailed us afterward to say her sister "genuinely cried" — which, same.
It also converts really well as a sympathy gift. When someone loses a cat, a framed royal portrait of that specific animal hits differently than a flower delivery. We've noticed the 24x36 size skews heavily toward that use case — people want something substantial for a cat they lived with for 15+ years.
Honestly, who this isn't for: anyone hoping the portrait will look photorealistic. The style is painterly Renaissance — think Flemish court portraiture, not a high-res photo edit. If your recipient wants a true-to-life image of their cat, they'd be happier with a straight canvas photo print. If they want their cat to look like it's been sitting for a 17th-century royal painter, this is exactly that.
How it's made
You upload a clear, well-lit photo of your cat — head-on or three-quarters angle works best; our production notes recommend avoiding side profiles because the crown placement gets awkward. From there, our AI compositing layer maps the cat's facial structure onto the royal costume template: the deep blue velvet robe, gold embroidery, lace ruff collar, and jeweled crown. That draft goes to one of our human artists for refinement — adjusting fur texture, eye catchlights, and making sure the proportions don't look uncanny. Our head of production, Maya Chen, flagged years ago that the automated layer gets the eyes wrong about 8% of the time (too glassy, too symmetrical), so every pet portrait gets a manual pass before it's sent to print. We reject around 1 in 12 generations outright. The final file prints on 380gsm artist-grade canvas, then gets hand-stretched and stapled onto a kiln-dried pine frame. No rolled posters. No glossy photo paper pretending to be canvas.
What makes this different
Generic "royal pet portrait" searches will surface a lot of print-on-demand shops that drop the same stock Renaissance costume onto every cat and call it personalized. The face is approximate at best — sometimes it barely resembles the animal at all, and you'd only know after paying. What we do is different in one concrete way: the face has to actually look like your cat, or we redo it. That's not a marketing line — it's the reason we have a rejection step in production that costs us real time and money. We also retire themes periodically (we pulled our "Baroque Merchant" cat theme in early 2024 because the quality wasn't consistent enough), so if you're ordering the Regal Feline Majesty theme now, it's the version we've refined across thousands of orders, not a day-one experiment. If you've got a human in the household who'd want their own version, the Royal Queen Portrait runs the same process — different costume, same production standard.

Of our 50,000+ orders since 2022, the royal cat portrait is a top-three pet theme — we produced 1,247 units in 2025 alone, with the 12×16 size accounting for roughly 41% of those orders. PortraitGift internal production data, 2025–2026
The global custom pet portrait market was valued at approximately $1.1 billion in 2023 and is projected to grow at 7.2% CAGR through 2030, driven by the humanization-of-pets trend. Grand View Research, Pet Portrait Market Report, 2024
The royal cat theme has one production quirk nobody talks about: crowns look wrong on cats with very flat faces — Persians, British Shorthairs — because the forehead geometry doesn't give us enough room to place the crown naturally. We've refined the template four times since 2022 specifically for brachycephalic breeds, and it's still the variation that takes longest to pass our review. Worth knowing if you have a Persian.
What customers say
Daniel R. · Austin, TX · ★★★★★
Got this for my girlfriend's birthday — her cat Biscuit passed away in January 2025 after 14 years, and I wanted something more permanent than flowers. The 16×20 arrived in about 9 days. Biscuit's orange tabby stripes are spot-on, and the crown sits right on his head without looking Photoshopped. She cried. Put it over the fireplace the same day. That's all I needed.
Priya K. · London, UK · ★★★★★
First version they sent had the eyes slightly too wide — looked a bit startled, not regal at all. I emailed them with a comparison photo and they reprinted within the week, no hassle. Second version was genuinely beautiful. My cat Duchess has very distinctive green eyes and they nailed them on the second pass. Just be specific in your feedback if something's off.
Tara M. · Chicago, IL · ★★★★★
Ordered the 8×10 because I wasn't sure I'd love it — figured I'd test the waters. Mistake. It looked so good I immediately ordered the 24×36. My black cat Void now occupies an entire wall of my apartment wearing a velvet cape and a ruby crown and honestly it's the best home decor decision I've made in three years of renting.
Care and shipping
US orders ship in 5–7 business days; EU customers should expect 7–14 days depending on customs. The canvas ships fully assembled and framed — no DIY stretching needed. For care: keep it out of direct sunlight (UV fading is real on any canvas, ours included), and don't hang it in bathrooms or near humidity sources. If the print arrives damaged or the likeness genuinely doesn't look like your cat, our 60-day satisfaction policy covers a full reprint or refund — just email us with a photo of the issue. We don't have a "digital product, final sale" loophole. If it's wrong, we fix it.
Frequently asked questions
What makes this a 'custom royal portrait' — is the face actually my cat's, or is it just a generic cat in a costume? It's your cat's actual face. You upload a photo, we composite your cat's specific features — eye shape, fur coloring, markings — into the Renaissance royal setting. The costume is the template; everything from the neck up is built from your photo. That's the whole point, and also why we have a manual review step before printing. My photo isn't great — will it still work?Depends on what 'not great' means. Slightly blurry or low-megapixel? Usually fine — the painterly style covers a lot of sins that would be obvious in a photo print. Extreme backlighting, heavy motion blur, or a photo where the cat's face is half-obscured? Those are genuinely hard, and sometimes the result looks off even after our artist pass. If you only have a borderline photo, email it to us before ordering and we'll tell you honestly whether it'll work. How long until I actually see a preview? We don't do a pre-approval preview step in the standard workflow — the portrait goes straight to print after our internal quality check. Typical turnaround from order to shipped is 3–5 business days for production, then 5–7 days US shipping on top of that. If you need to see a draft before printing, reach out after ordering and we can usually accommodate it, but it adds 1–2 days. Can I put two cats in one portrait?Multi-pet portraits aren't currently available for this specific theme — the royal costume composition is designed for a single subject. If you want both cats represented, the workaround most people use is ordering two separate portraits in matching sizes and hanging them side by side. It actually looks great. We're testing a dual-subject option but it's not live yet. What if the portrait doesn't look like my cat after I receive it?That's what the 60-day policy is for. Email us a photo of the portrait next to a photo of your cat, explain what's off, and we'll reprint it. We've had cases where the fur color rendered too warm or the eyes looked slightly wrong — those get fixed. We've also had cases where someone just didn't like the style, which is harder, but we still work with you. We'd rather reprint than have you sitting on a canvas you resent. Is the $35 price for the canvas frame included, or is that extra? The $35 includes the canvas print and the wooden stretcher frame — it arrives ready to hang. No separate framing cost, no hidden finishing fees. What you see is what you pay.Do you do this for dogs too, or is it cats only?We do dogs. Same process, same theme options. The royal portrait style works well for dogs with expressive faces — huskies and golden retrievers especially. If you want a human-and-pet combo in a royal setting, check out what we're building, but that's not a current live product for this specific theme. For now it's one pet per portrait.
Your cat has been sitting on that throne in their head for years. Give them the portrait to prove it.
