How it's made

You upload a clear photo — ideally face-forward, decent lighting, nothing heavily filtered — and our system uses a trained face-mapping model to place your likeness into the Viking scene. Same process for the pet: we need a photo where the animal's face is visible and reasonably in focus (blurry pet photos are the single biggest source of production delays we deal with). From there, a human artist refines the composite — adjusting lighting, shadows, fur texture on the armor, the way the wolf or bear cub integrates with the composition. We discard about 1 in 12 initial generations internally before it ever reaches the artist, because when the face placement is off even slightly, no amount of refinement fixes it. The final file goes to print on museum-grade canvas with a UV-resistant coating, then it's hand-stretched over a solid wood frame before shipping. Our head of production, Maya Chen, flags any portrait where the pet's face reads as 'generic animal' rather than specifically your animal — that distinction is the whole point, and it's where cheap competitors fall short.

Care and shipping

US orders ship in 5–7 business days; EU customers should expect 7–14 business days depending on customs processing — we can't control that last part, and we'd rather tell you upfront than have you surprised. The canvas ships rolled in a protective cardboard tube (not folded — we learned that lesson from early customer complaints in 2022). Hang away from direct sunlight and high humidity; the UV coating handles normal indoor light well, but a south-facing wall in Arizona is going to age any canvas faster than intended. If you're not happy with the portrait for any reason within 60 days of delivery, contact us and we'll reprint or refund — no lengthy dispute process, no 'store credit only' runaround.
