"Bridgerton-style couple portrait for my wife's birthday. She's a hardcore fan of the show. The background detail is silly — you can see the candle flames. Not exaggerating, she teared up."

"I got this Game of Thrones-style portrait as a surprise gift for my husband, and he was blown away! The likeness, the details, the whole epic vibe — it was like seeing him as a true king of Westeros. The quality is amazing, and it arrived quickly and ready to hang. He said it's one of the coolest gifts he's ever received. Totally worth it for any GOT fan!"

"Let's just say… this portrait perfectly captures our relationship dynamics. I'm the fierce Viking, of course — noble, brave, beard goals. And my wife? Well, she insisted on being the Devil. Horns, smirk, fiery eyes — it's uncomfortably accurate. The quality is amazing, the frame is solid pinewood, and it came ready to hang right above our bed… because nothing says romance like a Viking and his demonic queen staring into your soul every night. 10/10, would get possessed again."

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely obsessed with our Bridgerton-inspired couple portrait! It's like we stepped straight into a Regency romance — I've never seen us look so elegant and dramatic. The detailing on the costumes is stunning, the expressions are spot on, and the soft background gives it that perfect vintage vibe. It arrived quickly, beautifully printed, and ready to hang. We've already had friends ask where they can get one! Total romantic dream come true."

TL;DR: A custom Renaissance family portrait that drops your actual family's faces into a richly detailed Old Masters–style canvas painting. Best for families of 2–6 who want a statement wall piece that's genuinely one-of-a-kind — popular for Christmas, milestone birthdays, and 'I have no idea what to get them' moments that need to land hard.
Every face is individually composited from your uploaded photo — this isn't a filter or a stock illustration with a name slapped on it.
We reject roughly 1 in 12 generated compositions internally before an artist ever touches them, which is why faces look like your family and not a vague approximation.
Renaissance family portraits are our third-most-gifted canvas theme in the 'group' category, behind only Royal and Christmas — in 2025 we produced just over 800 of them.
The finished canvas ships on a 1.5-inch hardwood stretcher frame, gallery-wrapped, ready to hang without a separate frame purchase.
At $35 for a canvas gift that stops people mid-step when they walk into a room, it's genuinely hard to beat on the price-to-wow ratio.
Who it's for (and who it isn't)
The families who order this most consistently are multigenerational households — think a mom who wants something for the living room that includes grandparents, kids, and the family dog (yes, we do pets in frame, though results vary). We also see a lot of adult children buying it as a surprise for their parents' anniversary or retirement. The 'we've been married 30 years and I have no idea what to get him' problem? This solves it, reliably. Daniel R. from Austin, TX ordered the 24×36 for his parents' 40th anniversary and sent us a photo of his mom crying in front of it. That's the use case.
It also works for younger couples who just moved in together and want wall art that doesn't look like something from a college dorm — a Renaissance family portrait is weird enough to be a conversation piece, but executed well enough to read as taste rather than a gag gift. If you've got two people, three kids, and a golden retriever you want immortalized in doublet and ruff, this is your product.
Who it's not for: if you're looking for something lighter and more playful, the Renaissance framing can feel a little formal and serious. Teenagers sometimes find the full-family-in-Renaissance-dress concept cringey rather than cool. If the recipient has a big personality and would rather be a lone hero than part of a group tableau, the Custom Renaissance Man Portrait with sword and castle is going to hit differently — more ego-flattering, less 'the whole family dressed for a dinner party in 1490.'
How it's made
You upload your photo — ideally a clear shot where everyone's face is forward-facing and reasonably lit, though we work with a lot of imperfect vacation snapshots — and our AI face-placement system maps each face onto the Renaissance scene. That's where the rejection rate comes in: we discard about 1 in 12 first-pass generations internally because the face lock isn't right. A loose facial composite that makes your mom look vaguely like your mom isn't something we ship. Once the AI pass clears our threshold, a human artist goes in and refines brushwork, adjusts lighting on skin tones, sharpens period details on the clothing and background, and does a final color-grade to make the whole thing feel cohesive rather than pasted together. The final file gets printed on a poly-cotton museum canvas, stretched on a 1.5-inch solid hardwood frame, and gallery-wrapped — meaning the image wraps around the edges so it looks finished from the side without a frame. Our head of production, Maya Chen, pulled us back from a cheaper canvas supplier in late 2024 after noticing that the ink sat differently on the weave; we stayed with the heavier substrate even though it added about $0.40 per unit to cost, because the texture matters when you're mimicking an Old Masters aesthetic.
What makes this different
Generic custom canvas prints — the kind you get from big-box photo services — put your photo on canvas. That's it. It's still just a photo, stretched. What's different here is that your family is actually in a scene: dressed in Renaissance-era clothing, placed in a composition with architectural and landscape elements, rendered in a style that reads as painted rather than photographed. The face-swap isn't a cartoon filter — it's a full facial composite that preserves likeness while integrating your features into the painting's light source and color palette. We also retire Renaissance compositions periodically to avoid oversaturation; if you buy this, you're not getting the same background template your neighbor ordered. Honestly, the only thing a framed photo from a drugstore has on this is speed — but we ship in 5–7 days US, so that gap has mostly closed.

Of our 50,000+ orders since 2022, Renaissance-themed canvases account for roughly 12% of total volume — with family group compositions being the most requested Renaissance format, representing over 800 units produced in 2025 alone. PortraitGift internal production data, 2025–2026
The personalized gifts market was valued at approximately $31.6 billion globally in 2023 and is projected to grow at a CAGR of 9.4% through 2030, driven largely by custom photo-based products. Grand View Research, Personalized Gifts Market Report, 2024
The Renaissance family template is one of the harder compositions to get right — you're balancing multiple face sizes, period costume detail, and a background that needs to read as unified rather than assembled. We reject more first-pass generations on family portraits than on any single-subject canvas. But when it works, and it works most of the time, it's genuinely one of the most striking things we make. In 2025 we shipped over 800 of them and the revision request rate was under 8%.
What customers say
Sandra M. · Portland, OR · ★★★★★
Ordered this for my parents' 35th anniversary — five of us kids went in together and submitted a photo from their last family vacation. The faces are genuinely recognizable. My mom actually teared up when she opened it. The canvas quality surprised me; I was half-expecting something that looked like a phone case printout. It didn't. It looked like something you'd see hanging in a hotel lobby, in the best possible way. Already have three people in my family asking where I got it.
Tom B. · Manchester, UK · ★★★★★
First order I had a concern about the preview — my wife's face looked slightly off in the initial proof. Emailed the team, they fixed it within a day and resent the proof before printing. Final product looked brilliant. Shipping to the UK took about 10 days which was fine. Hung it in our dining room and it's become a talking point every time someone visits. Worth every penny at this price point.
Priya K. · Chicago, IL · ★★★★★
Got this for my mom's 60th birthday — put her, my dad, my brother, and me all in one portrait. Honestly wasn't expecting it to look as polished as it did. The clothing detail is legitimately impressive. One face (my brother's, slightly blurry source photo) is maybe 85% there, not 100%, but given the photo I submitted I can't really blame the process. Mom absolutely loves it. Will order again for Christmas — probably the couple's version for my in-laws.
Care and shipping
US orders ship in 5–7 business days; EU and UK customers should expect 7–14 business days depending on customs. The canvas is gallery-wrapped and ships in a reinforced flat-pack box — we switched to a double-walled corrugate in March 2024 after a stretch of winter shipping damage complaints, and corner damage claims dropped significantly. For care: dust with a dry microfiber cloth, keep out of direct sunlight to prevent ink fade, and don't hang in high-humidity spaces like directly over a bathroom. If anything's wrong when it arrives — damage, a likeness you're not happy with, anything — we have a 60-day satisfaction policy. Email us, send a photo, and we'll reprint or refund. No hoops.
Frequently asked questions
What if my photo quality is low — will the faces still look right?Low-res or slightly blurry photos are probably the most common complaint we get in our inbox, so let's be honest: there's a floor. If faces are under roughly 200px wide in the original image, or heavily motion-blurred, likeness accuracy drops and we'll usually flag it before production. A clear smartphone photo from the last five years, even in imperfect lighting, tends to work fine. If you're unsure, upload it — our system will tell you if there's a resolution issue before you pay.How many people can I include in one family portrait? We've successfully composited up to six faces in a single Renaissance family portrait. Beyond that, individual faces get small enough that the likeness detail suffers — the composition also starts to feel crowded. For large families of 7+, we'd honestly recommend splitting into two portraits or choosing a larger canvas size (24×36 minimum) and reaching out to our team first so we can plan the layout. Can I include a pet?Yes, with a caveat. Dogs and cats can be included — we've done quite a few. The catch is that period-accurate Renaissance scenes don't always have great compositional spots for animals, so results are more variable than with human faces. A clear, well-lit photo of the pet helps significantly. We'd say pets come out well about 75% of the time on first pass; if it doesn't look right we'll flag it.How long does it take from upload to delivery?Production takes 1–3 business days, then 5–7 days shipping within the US. So roughly 6–10 days total from upload to your door. EU and UK customers should add another week for transit. If you're ordering for a specific event, give yourself at least two weeks of buffer — holiday periods in November and December run longer. Can I see a preview before it ships?Yes. You'll receive a digital proof via email before we go to print. You get one round of revisions included — if a face placement is off, or the background color feels wrong, tell us and we'll adjust. Major structural changes to the composition after approval are harder to accommodate, so look carefully at the proof. What if I want just one person in the portrait, not a full family?Totally doable, and actually common. If it's a man you're shopping for, the Heroic Sword & Castle canvas tends to land better as a solo portrait — the composition was designed for a single subject. For a woman, the Regal Garden canvas is our most-gifted women's Renaissance option. The family portrait template works with one face but it's not what the scene was built around. Is the canvas ready to hang, or do I need a frame?Ready to hang. It ships gallery-wrapped on a 1.5-inch solid hardwood stretcher frame with hanging hardware included. You don't need to buy a separate frame, though some customers do add a floating frame for a more formal look — standard floating frame sizes work with our canvas dimensions. What's your return policy if I'm not happy with it?60-day satisfaction guarantee. If the portrait arrives damaged, the likeness is significantly off, or you're just not happy with how it turned out, email us with a photo of the issue and we'll reprint or refund — whichever you prefer. The only thing we ask is that you approved the digital proof first; if changes were requested and we missed them, that's fully on us.
Your family, painted into history. Upload a photo and see the preview before you commit to anything.
