From there, a human artist reviews the composite and does refinement work: correcting skin tone, adjusting how the hat or collar sits relative to the face, and cleaning up any artifacts around the hairline, which is where AI compositing tends to fall apart. We reject about 1 in 12 initial renders at this stage because the face-lock isn't clean enough — those get reprocessed, not shipped. Maya Chen, our head of production, instituted that rejection threshold in early 2024 after a bad batch of low-contrast face renders slipped through around the holidays. It added roughly half a day to average production time, but the complaint rate on likeness dropped noticeably afterward.
