Who it's for (and who it isn't)

This is squarely aimed at Catholic families who take the sacrament seriously. Grandparents, godparents, and aunts who want to give something meaningful — not another rosary set — keep coming back to this one. We've had a lot of orders from abuelas in South Texas and Florida who discovered us through word of mouth at parish events, which tells you something about the community this resonates with. The 8×10 tends to go to godparents who want to keep the price modest; the 16×20 and up almost always come from grandparents who are framing it for the living room.

Parents ordering for their own kid are another big group, usually when they've seen a friend's portrait from a sibling's communion the year before. They know exactly what they want and tend to upload a photo from the ceremony itself — which works great as long as the lighting isn't a disaster (more on that in the FAQs).

Who this isn't for: if you're not connected to the sacrament and just want a general religious portrait, this might feel too specifically tied to the First Communion occasion. The composition includes traditional elements — the white dress or suit, the symbolic details — that are distinctly tied to the rite. A generic angel or prayer portrait would serve a non-communion occasion better.

How it's made

You upload your photo; our system runs an initial AI face-mapping pass to anchor your child's likeness into the communion scene. That part is fast — usually a few minutes. What takes longer is the human layer: our artists review the output, adjust the face placement, clean up lighting inconsistencies between your photo and the composition, and hand-integrate the name into the design. Honestly, we discard about 1 in 12 generations at this stage because the face just doesn't lock — the jaw angle is off, the eyes look glassy, something feels wrong. Our head of production, Maya Chen, calls this the "uncanny valley checkpoint" and it's the step most competitors skip entirely. After artist approval, the file goes to print on museum-grade canvas — cotton-poly blend, acid-free, UV-resistant coating — stretched over kiln-dried pine bars. The whole process from upload to ship is typically 2–4 business days before the portrait even leaves our facility.

What makes this different

Stock communion frames and generic photo prints are everywhere. What's different here is that the portrait is compositionally built around your child's actual face — it's not a template where their photo sits inside a decorative border. The likeness is embedded into the scene: the posture, the clothing details, the lighting. No two portraits come out identical even if two kids wore the same dress. We also hand-integrate the name into the design (not just slapped in a generic font at the bottom), and every canvas ships gallery-wrapped so it can go straight on the wall. At $35 for the entry size, it's the kind of gift that photographs well at the party and then actually stays up in the house for years — which, if we're being honest, is the real test of a gift's worth.

The First Communion portrait has one of our highest reorder rates — about 30% of customers come back within a year to order a sibling's or cousin's. That kind of repeat behavior tells us the first one worked, which is really the only metric I care about. In 2025 we produced over 900 of these, and the revision request rate was under 8%. Care and shipping

US orders ship in 5–7 business days from our facility; EU and international customers should expect 7–14 business days depending on customs. The canvas is UV-resistant and should be kept out of direct prolonged sunlight — a south-facing window with no treatment will fade any canvas print over years, ours included. Wipe down with a dry microfiber cloth; no moisture. If you're not happy with the portrait for any reason within 60 days of delivery, we'll reprint or refund — no hoops, no "store credit only" runaround. Email the order number and we sort it. Simple as that.
