A pet painting from a photo — done properly
Pets are harder to paint than people: fur direction, ear shape, and that one specific head-tilt are exactly what owners notice when they’re wrong. Our dog portrait generator and cat portrait generator styles were trained and tuned on thousands of real pet orders, so the personality survives the paint.
Popular directions include regal pets on thrones, cowboy pets, and gentle memorial portraits with paw prints and flowers for pets who have passed.
The photo matters more than the breed
Any breed works — what the generator needs is a photo taken at the pet’s eye level, in daylight, with the face unobstructed. Avoid photos taken from above (the “big head, tiny body” look) unless that’s the caricature you’re going for.
How it works
- Upload your favorite clear photo of your pet — one pet per photo works best.
- Preview your AI pet portrait in a painted style, free.
- Order it as a canvas, or try another photo — previews stay free.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work for animals other than dogs and cats?
Yes — rabbits, birds, horses and reptiles all come through the pipeline regularly. If a preview ever looks off, try a photo with the animal’s face larger in frame.
Can I make a memorial portrait of a pet who passed away?
Yes, and it’s one of the most common orders. Old or low-quality photos can be improved first with our free photo restoration tool, then painted.
Can my pet and I be in the same portrait?
Several styles support an owner-and-pet composition. Upload a photo of the two of you together, or ask support to combine separate photos after you order.
What makes a pet photo “good enough”?
Face visible, eyes open, taken at the pet’s level, and not too dark. It does not need to be professional — most orders start from ordinary phone photos.
