Who this collection suits

If you're buying for a partner — anniversary, Valentine's Day, just because — this is the one to consider. The warm ochres and coral tones read as romantic without being saccharine about it. We've seen couples in their 30s through their 70s respond to sunset portraits in a way that feels more personal than, say, a Royal or Fantasy theme. How to pick the right one

Here's the honest version of how to pick, since we don't have a huge product matrix within this collection — it's more about size and subject than it is about choosing between wildly different products.

For couples: Go bigger. A sunset couples portrait at 24×36 on stretched canvas is the move. The composition needs room to breathe — two silhouettes against a gradient sky in a 12×16 feels cramped and loses the drama. For pets: 16×20 is the sweet spot for a single pet. The subject is usually centred, the background does the emotional heavy lifting, and at that size it works on a side wall, above a fireplace, or as part of a gallery arrangement. If you're doing two pets together, bump to 18×24.

For the new-homeowner or housewarming gift: This is one of those rare cases where spending more is genuinely the right call. A 24×36 stretched canvas — the largest we offer — arrives ready to hang, looks expensive in the best possible way, and is the kind of gift people photograph and post. It's also the one where you'll occasionally get a message six months later saying it's still the first thing guests comment on. Honestly, that email never gets old.

For parents or grandparents: A family group shot in sunset style — all the kids, maybe a grandchild or two — at 18×24 or 20×30 is genuinely one of our better-performing gifts for Mother's Day and Christmas. The sunset palette tends to flatter group compositions more than some of our other styles, which can get busy with multiple subjects. Worth considering if you're stuck on what to get someone who has everything.

One thing to be upfront about: sunset art works best with photos that have reasonable contrast and decent lighting. We can work with a lot, and our team does review every upload before production. But if the source photo is very dark, very blurry, or taken in a cluttered environment, the sunset effect can't fully compensate. Honestly a strong impulse gift for a birthday or just-because moment. The smaller size works well for a desk, a bedroom shelf, or a smaller accent wall. If the recipient has limited wall space, this is actually the better call regardless of budget.

$50–$100
This is where most orders live. Couples sunset portraits, larger single-subject pieces at 18×24, family compositions at 18×24 or 20×30 — all fall in this range. It's also where the sunset palette really earns its keep: at 18×24 and above, the gradient sky has room to develop properly and the silhouette work reads clearly from across a room. If you're giving this as a meaningful gift (anniversary, Mother's Day, close friend's housewarming), this tier is where we'd point you.

$100+
The 24×36 stretched canvas. No caveats, no asterisks — it's just a proper statement piece. Ships ready to hang, arrives in protective packaging, and is the size where people stop mid-conversation to ask about it. We've had customers come back for a second one in a different room. This tier also covers any add-ons like premium framing or rush production if you're cutting it close to a deadline. Worth it for a major occasion or a recipient you want to genuinely impress.

Occasion deadlines

Valentine's Day 2026 (February 14): Order by February 7 for standard US delivery (5–7 business days). International orders — EU, UK, Canada, Australia — should be in by January 28 to be safe. We do offer rush production for an additional fee; if you're reading this after February 7, email us before assuming it's too late.

Mother's Day 2026 (May 10, US/Canada): US standard cutoff is May 2. International cutoff is April 22. Sunset family group portraits are our second most-ordered Mother's Day format — we'd suggest uploading your photo early, because the queue fills up in the final week and rush fees apply.

Father's Day 2026 (June 21, US/Canada): US order by June 13. International by June 3. Sunset portraits are less common for dads than our Cowboy or Viking themes — that's just honest — but a father-child sunset silhouette piece lands beautifully if the recipient is sentimental rather than novelty-driven.

Christmas 2026: US standard cutoff is December 16. EU and UK should order by December 5. Australia and international: December 1. We're not going to sugarcoat the December rush — production times can stretch in the final two weeks of the year, and we'd rather you order early than stress-email us on December 20. Rush production is available but not guaranteed in peak week.

General rule: US orders ship in 5–7 business days. EU and UK: 7–14 business days. Australia, NZ, Canada: 10–18 business days. All estimates assume standard production; custom requests or unclear photos that require back-and-forth can add 1–2 days.

Sunset art is the collection I recommend when someone says they want something that feels like real art but still has the personalisation of a custom portrait. The palette does emotional work that a lot of our other themes rely on concept to achieve. It's quieter but it lasts longer on a wall.

The number-one thing I tell customers who are nervous about a custom gift: if you're going to spend anything, spend it on size. A sunset portrait at 24x36 that someone didn't expect is a completely different experience from the same portrait at 12x16. We've never had a complaint about ordering too large.
